Letter, 1889 May 23, Kansas City, Mo., [to] "Dear Dr."

Discusses the controversial decision of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, meeting at Chattanooga, Tenn., to censure the South Carolina Synod for its condemnation of the Charleston Presbytery. This action followed a statement issued earlier by the Baltimore General Assembly ruling that the theory of evolution, as taught by the Rev. Dr. James Woodrow of South Carolina, was contrary to the standards of the church. In compliance, the Charleston Presbytery had forbidden public debate on the issue, a move condemned by the South Carolina Synod.
